Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire when she was five, Emma enrolled at the Dragon School. Emma was just six when she made the decision to become an actress. She studied for a number of years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. At the age of 10 years old, Emma took part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been chosen for these characters. It beat all previous records in terms of opening day and weekend sales, and it was the top-grossing 2001 film. Critics have praised both the film, as well as the performance of the three principal young actors. The widely distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable.
